Job Description

The Sales Engineer is an integral person in helping our customer’s vision for a semi-automated or conventional storage solution from stow US come to life. The core objective is to create competitive, winning quotes in the Pre-Sales process.

Solutions: Pallet Shuttles (Atlas 1D), Mobile Racking, and Pallet Racking including High Bay and Mini Load storage systems as well as Mezzanines.

Customers: We partner with leading Distributors throughout the United States and Canada to serve End Users in a variety of industries such as food and beverage distribution, consumer goods, and e-commerce in general.

As our Sales Engineer, you…

  • collaboratively determine the feasibility of projects so that our resources are used wisely
  • study and analyze the technical documentation provided by Sales and when applicable, by distributors, integrators, and end customers
  • review specifications and layouts
  • identify missing information, report issues to stakeholders, and make appropriate assumptions, to find the best possible technical solution
  • assist in estimating projects for the sales teams from start to finish including, getting quotes from outside vendors, and checking hardware sizes and quantities
  • engineer structural racking system and structural components via our proprietary software
  • produce all required technical documentation and calculations via our proprietary software
  • design non-standard items when necessary
  • is involved with new product development and engineering initiatives
  • create drawings in AutoCAD to illustrate and justify the technical solution to stakeholders
  • prepare general CAD layout according to the actual dimensions on-site
  • create preliminary drawings, usually with multiple revisions
  • define the required engineering software needed for each project, such as our proprietary software and product manual/product book
  • prepare bill of materials and specification of projects, products, and materials or equipment
  • collaborate with Supply Chain to prepare RFQ for locally purchased materials
  • in collaboration with colleagues from other departments, offer all pieces of information that will determine the overall project budget such as material costs, third-party services costs, transportation, assembly, and stow service costs
  • support the sales team in designing the best solution and provide a constructive proposal including disclaimers

Qualifications

This lets us know you’re up for the job

  • Multiple years of experience with estimating and mechanical equipment design of steel structures, large storage systems (such as pallet racking and/or pallet shuttles) or other applicable material handling solutions
  • Experience with the complexities of the quotation process including transportation and third-party needs
  • Understanding how to optimize warehouse operations is a huge plus
  • Solid understanding of project lifecycles and the ability to estimate and control the scope of work for any particular project
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D or comparable software is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering is a plus but not required if you bring relevant work experience as described above
  • On rare occasion, travel to customer sites to research, collect and report information about the site
  • If remote, occasional travel to our Romeoville, IL office (average 3 days at a time; approx. 4-6 times per year besides onboarding & training)
  • For onboarding and training, if remote, travel for training and onboarding to our Romeoville, IL office and regardless of your location, to our headquarters in Belgium (usually no more than 2 weeks at a time)
  • We work closely with our European colleagues. The morning hours are the most important so we can connect with them while our business hours overlap across time zones. If you love starting your workday mid-morning or later, you would hate it here. Most people start their workday at 8 am CST and some love to start even earlier so they can wrap up earlier at the end of the day.
